Kim Kardashian Loses 150,000 Followers After Posting Melania Trump Photo on Instagram

Kim Kardashian, reality TV star and entrepreneur, reportedly lost approximately 150,000 Instagram followers after sharing a photo of former First Lady Melania Trump’s outfit from President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Additionally, Kardashian saw a decrease of 9,553 followers on X (formerly Twitter), further highlighting the backlash to her post.

Social Media Backlash

Although Kardashian’s Instagram story featured no caption, the image stirred controversy, with many users accusing her of promoting “far-right MAGA propaganda.” Hollywood figures and influencers often avoid public expressions of support for Trump, a trend James Hacking, founder of analytics firm Socially Powerful, underscored in a press release.

“This administration is undoubtedly divisive, with many celebrities distancing themselves from showing support for President Trump. It’s interesting that Kim Kardashian, as the original influencer, made this move by posting a picture of the First Lady, Melania Trump,” Hacking remarked.

A Risky Move for the Kardashians?

Kardashian’s follower count drop is a testament to the influence of social media dynamics and audience sentiment. Hacking added, “While there was no explicit caption, it’s fascinating to see how a single image can lead to such a significant loss of followers. Whether Kim or any member of the Kardashian family continues to post about the Trump family remains to be seen, but doing so may come with the risk of alienating followers.”

With a following of approximately 358 million on Instagram, Kardashian is one of the platform’s most prominent figures. However, this incident illustrates how political sensitivities can swiftly impact even the most influential social media accounts.
