HMPV Cases Rise: Bali Monitors Flights and Implements Health Measures

Bali Tightens Health Controls
Indonesia has begun monitoring flights from China and Malaysia due to concerns over increasing cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the region. Passengers traveling to Bali must now complete a health declaration form three days before arrival, providing information about their health status.

HMPV Surge Across Regions
Countries like Singapore and China have reported seasonal spikes in HMPV cases, particularly among children. Singapore witnessed a rise in infections at the end of 2024, attributed to increased social gatherings and holiday travel. Health experts emphasize that the rise aligns with expected winter trends.

Global Health Expert Calls for Transparency
Dr. Sanjaya Senanayake, an infectious disease expert, highlighted the importance of timely data sharing by China to aid in global monitoring and response to the virus. HMPV, which causes flu-like symptoms, has been particularly prevalent in northern Chinese provinces.

India Addresses Public Concerns
India’s health minister, JP Nadda, reassured citizens that HMPV is not a new virus and there is “no reason to worry,” urging people to remain vigilant without panic.
