Puerto Rican Boxer Paul Bamba Dies at 35

The boxing world mourns the loss of Paul Bamba, a 35-year-old Puerto Rican champion, whose death was announced by his manager, singer Ne-Yo.

Bamba, known for his fierce competitiveness and unwavering determination, claimed the WBA Gold Cruiserweight Title on December 21 by defeating Mexican boxer Rogelio Medina in New Jersey.

In a heartfelt joint statement on Instagram, Ne-Yo and Bamba’s family shared:

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend, and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives. He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual that inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.”

The family requested privacy during this difficult time as they navigate their grief.

Bamba’s Unstoppable Career

In 2024, Bamba won all 14 of his fights by knockout, with his crowning moment coming in his victory over Medina. His career stats are equally impressive, with 19 wins in 22 professional bouts, 18 of which were knockouts.

Last week, following his title win, Bamba posted an inspirational message on Instagram:

“This year I set out with a goal. I did just that. Wasn’t easy, there were many obstacles that I adapted to overcome and kept on the path we set regardless of extenuating circumstances. If you’ve got what some might call an outlandish goal, go chase it. Anyone who thinks that isn’t as brave as you, prove people wrong.”

Boxing World Pays Tribute

Tributes have poured in for Bamba, including from social media influencer and boxer Jake Paul, whom Bamba had expressed interest in fighting. Paul posted on X:

“RIP Paul Bamba.”

The legacy of Paul Bamba will live on in the hearts of fans, friends, and family, as well as in the annals of boxing history.
